What is the meaning of Da vinci code 1st, 2nd or 3rd eddition?

I want to read dan browns Da Vinci code but when I went to the bookstore I came across 3 edditons. What does that mean? Which eddition should I buy? :S What difference does it make if I buy the 1st eddition or the 3rd?
