Need tips on settling personal injury claim?

I'm in the process of settling with a local grocery store. One of their workers smashed a cart in my toe which broke my toe. My medical bills are about 1700 dollars. Need some tips on negotiating pain and suffering and should the store reimburse my insurance company directly or should the store give the money to me directly then i reimburse the insurance company?
