Rome Airport, Fiumicino - Leonardo da Vinci airport of Rome?
The airport is approximately 20 miles from the city center, and trains leave for the train station in Rome every 30 min or so. Its the least expensive way to get into Rome. The train is around 10 euro and a taxi is probably around 50 euro. If you have a lot of luggage I would recommend taking the train to Stazione Termini and from there taking a taxi to your hotel. The nearest subway station is about 1/4 mile away from the fountain. The best way and most inexpensive is to walk. The historic section of Rome is not huge and most things are within a mile radius of Trevi fountain. The metro (subway) is also a great bargain. A one way trip is 1 euro (at least it was in 2008). The underground system is not complicated. There are two separate lines and basically make a large X, with the connecting point being at the train station. I would recommend going to your local bookstore and buying a guidebook to study before you go. The maps itself with show the underground system better than I can describe it. Rome is an awesome place, and you must eat a pizza on an outdoor table along a bustling street. That in itself is an experience I'll never forget.
